Biography

In the cut-and-paste-heavy industry of adult entertainment, Joanna Angel stands apart as one of the most distinctive celebrities. Joanna Angel was born on 25 December 1980, in Boston, Massachusetts. Her introverted, shy childhood led to her becoming the target of teenage snark and snarls however, the experience shaped her for the path that would lead to her academic and professional ambitions. After finishing high school at the tender age of 17, Joanna was accepted into Rutgers University where she graduated with an undergraduate degree in English and minoring of Film Studies. At the age of 18 she swore off her virginity, which proved to be quite a emotional experience. From then on Joanna’s lust for sexual pleasure only increased and more varied.

After graduating, Joanna moved to the Williamsburg area in Brooklyn, NY and formed her own website, BurningAngel, allowing her to explore her growing sexuality. With a plethora of the rock and roll swagger and a small, beautiful body that doubled as a canvas for her numerous tattoos, Joanna swiftly created a market later to be referred to as “alt porn.”

Joanna has produced, written, and directed and appeared in films only through BurningAngel and was a former contract actor with VCA Pictures. Joanna has been featured in a variety of publications and newspapers, such as The New York Times. The year 2006 was the time that AVN has nominated Joanna to win both “Best New Starlet” and “Best Actress” awards, and she was awarded the award in the category of “Most Outrageous Sex Scene” due to her performance in Re-Penetrator. On screen, she revealed her expertise in sexuality in a column on sex tips which was published on the cover of Spin magazine and in a chapter in the book Naked Ambition The Women’s Pornographers and the Way they’re changing sexuality Industry. She is a part of her own Adult Swim comedy series “Children’s Hospital.” The crossover appeal of her show earned her an in 2009 an AVN award for Jenna Jameson Crossover Star of the Year. Her numerous talents have been acknowledged by award nominations for her screenplays, direction, and even her original music in her movies.
